Discovery Road [Tim Garratt and Andy Brown]
Tim and Andy's journey riding mountain bikes across three continents is full of adventure and is a definite journey of self-discovery. Highly recommended.

Johnny Ginger's Last Ride [Tom Fremantle]
Tom Fremantle traces his ancestor's footsteps from England to the UK. Also highly recommended is his other book, The Moonshine Mule: On the Hoof from Mexico to Manhattan.

Josie Dew's books cover her extensive travels all over the globe. I especially like the two books detailling her journeys around Japan, A Ride in the Neon Sun: A Gaijin in Japan and The Sun in My Eyes: Two-wheeling East.

Anne Mustoe's books also cover her journeys around the world. When I started reading her books I wasn't sure that I "liked" her. Once I got going and settled into her writing, I found myself enjoying them more and more. I now think of her novels as a lesson from a favourite teacher - she still has that school teacher air about her writing. Highly recommended.

It's Not About the Bike: My Journey Back to Life [Lance Armstrong]
Lance is one of my definite sporting heroes. It's a cliche I know, but you can't help but be inspired by It's Not About the Bike. His words about cancer being the best thing that happened to him is something that keeps coming back to me time and again.

French Revolutions: Cycling the Tour De France [Tim Moore]
A long-retired cyclist getting back in the saddle to do Le Tour.

Journey to the Centre of the Earth [Richard and Nicholas Crane]
Very enjoyable adventure tale of the Crane Brothers Journey to the furtherest navigable point on earth from the sea. I look forward to also reading Bicycles Up Kilimanjaro.

The Escape Artist: Life from the Saddle [Matt Seaton]
A short, but moving account of a journalist whose growing obsession with cycling sometimes overtook his home life and at other times became an escape from it as his wife died of cancer.

It's Not About the Tapas [Polly Evans]
I read a review about this book in a magazine. I then went out to find it in bookstores, but couldn't see it anywhere. It started to take on a mythical status in our household. "Yeah, that book about the woman who cycles around Spain - like the Lost City of Atlantis". Eventually found in a Heathrow bookshop (and since seen everywhere else) and enjoyed. Polly is a firm believer in the stuffing your face but still losing weight school of cycle touring in which we're hoping to enrol.

Downhill All the Way [Edward Enfield]
Edward is an interesting writer with a sharp eye and dry wit. Also highly recommended is Greece on My Wheels.

Riding with Ghosts [Gwen Maka]
Fascinating journey through America by a fortysomething housewife. I wasn't sure that I liked her style of writing at first, but gradually I got caught by it and enjoyed it and its' sequel, South of the Border: Riding with Ghosts, and was very disappointed when I'd finished them both. Hope she writes some more soon.

Cold Beer and Crocodiles: A Bicycle Journey into Australia [Roff Smith]
After living in Australia for over a decade, Roff Smith (American by birth) decides to travel the circumference of his adopted country and find out why he was living there. I really enjoyed this as Roff really got under the skin of Australia and its' people, both good and bad.
